Kindergarten

The Platypus Junction Kindergarten Programme is the ideal preparation for preschoolers. Our play-based Kinder Programme focuses on growing self-confidence, self-esteem, problem-solving skills and independence – giving children a great start for school and the tools to make friends easily.

Both our 3-year-old and 4-year-old Kindergarten Programmes operate 5 days a week with Bachelor trained Qualified Early Childhood Teachers, who take pride in developing a fun and enriching educational programme based on the Early Years Learning Framework Curriculum.

Children develop a love of learning by engaging in exciting and varied activities such as singing and dancing, craft activities, reading stories together, trying new things and investigating areas of interest – everything from worms to space travel.

3-year-old Kindergarten Programme

The Platypus Junction 3-year-old Kindergarten Programme operates five days a week with a Bachelor trained Qualified Early Childhood Teacher. We recognise the importance of these early years of education so we have committed to an Educator with higher qualifications.

The 3-year-old educational programme is based on the Early Years Learning Framework Curriculum of Belonging, Being and Becoming. This is the Curriculum that we use to inform their practices, observe, assess and plan for future learning with young children. The Framework identifies five Learning Outcomes for all children from birth to eight years:

Outcome 1 – Children have a strong sense of Identity – IDENTITY
Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world – COMMUNITY
Outcome 3 – Children have a strong sense of Wellbeing – WELLBEING
Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners – LEARNING
Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators – COMMUNICATION

In 3-year-old Kindergarten we continue with an emphasis on play-based learning and engender a strong sense of belonging to family and community. For the children it is about having fun and new experiences, developing confidence and their identity in the process.

4-year-old Kindergarten Programme

We have a Victorian Government funded kindergarten programme for four and five year olds that operates five days week for the ultimate school readiness preparation. Our two Bachelor trained Early Childhood Kindergarten Teachers educate as a team to ensure all children have full contact for their whole day at Platypus Junction Kindergarten. Our Kindergarten teachers manage school readiness and liaise with our pre-schoolers’ new teachers to ensure a smooth transition on their journey into school life. Our 4-year-old Kinder programme is based on the Early Years Learning Framework Curriculum and focuses on growing self-confidence, self-esteem, problem-solving skills and independence – giving children a great head-start for school and the skills to make friends easily.

How we deliver our Curriculum at Platypus Junction The Australian Government has introduced Belonging, Being and Becoming – The Early Years Framework. This is the Curriculum that we use to inform their practices, observe, assess and plan for future learning with young children. School readiness – Transition Learning and Development Statements
For the children attending school in the next year, Transition Learning and Development Statements are compiled with assistance of their families. The statements are completed by November and passed on to the respective Primary schools to assist with a smooth transition to school for our Platypus Junction Kinder attendees.

Some families struggle with knowing whether their child is ready to start school. Our expert educators are available to assist and will discuss any concerns they have throughout your child’s time at Platypus Junction. Not only do children need to be academically ready for the transition from kinder, they must also possess adequate social and emotional skills to support them to successfully develop friendships and be relaxed and ready to learn. Where there are concerns, we work with the trusted team at Growing Together child and family therapy. Growing Together can conduct thorough school readiness assessments so you can make an informed decision.

Kindergarten Facilities

Each kinder age group has their own, unique area for learning and play that is challenging and fun. Our Level 3 outdoor kinder play area along with the rooftop botanical playground offers age appropriate and dynamic challenges for the children to develop their imagination, creativity, gross motors skills, sociability, learning to problem solve, and to relax and have fun in nature.

The kindergarten educational programmes integrate technology exploration, music, movement, art, literacy, numeracy and Science Technology Engineering and Maths programme (STEM Learning). Incursions and special visitors such as our children’s yoga and mindfulness expert, the reptile show, plus the hatching chickens life cycle project further extend opportunities for exploration and learning.
